What is EA Originals?
For starters, let’s explain EA Originals which is a new publishing program aimed at spotlighting indie games, following the success and popularity of Unravel. The firm said it knows there are more developers and studios with unique stories which deserve the spotlight. “With EA Originals, we are committed to finding great new games that we know players are going to love, and working with small developers to make sure those games get discovered and into the hands of players,” said EA. EA Originals is about three things: Firstly, ‘taking first-time experiences that are unique, gorgeous, innovative and memorable, and bringing them to the world’. The aim is also about supporting small developers and helping them make games. Thirdly, EA Originals is funding and security with the aim of making sure the profits from the games go back to the studios so they can be recognised and also keep ‘innovating and creating’ more new games. What is Fe?
Fe is the first EA Originals title and was announced at EA Play. It’s made by Zoink, a small studio in Gothenburg, Sweden. The publisher has said it will select a ‘few projects each year for EA Originals’. “At its heart, Fe is a personal narrative about our relationship with nature, the land, and its beings. It’s a wordless celebration of our longing to be one with world around us. It’s a story that reminds us that everything in this world is connected, living in a delicate balance that is constantly under threat. It’s a game full of discovery, conflict, and relationships,” said Zoink. In Fe you are a young cub waking in a dark forest glade without knowing who you are or how you came to be there. You’ll discover creatures and plants which are all connected via language which seems mainly to be music.
Evil looking creatures called ‘the silent ones’ (above) spread silence and corruption as they walk. You need to evade them with stealth and cunning to uncover their purpose. The game will give no indication of where to go, what to do or any other tips so you create your own experience which will ‘leave you scared, amazed and delighted’. There’s no word on a Fe release date or which platforms it will launch on so check back soon.
