Open up the app and tap on the Profile icon in the bottom right corner (the one that looks like a silhouette of a person’s head and shoulders. Next, tap the three lines in the top right corner and select Settings from the menu that appears.
Tap on Privacy and security then look for the section marked Security in which you’ll see an option for Password. Selecting this will open a new page where you will have to enter your current password, followed by the new one. Instagram recommends using a combination of ‘at least 6 numbers, letters and punctuation marks (like ! and %)’ to create a strong code.
Confirm the updated details by entering the password again, then to complete the process tap on the Save button or tick icon in the top right corner. That’s it, you can now log back into the app with your new password.
I’ve forgotten my Instagram password!
Should the reason you want to change your password be that you’ve forgotten the current one, then it’s easy to reset. Open the app and on the login screen you should see an option that says ‘Get help signing in’. Tap this, follow the instructions, and you’ll be good to go in no time.
Securing your account with two-factor authentication
For added security you should also enable the two-factor authentication. This means that whenever your account is logged into on a new device, Instagram will automatically send a text message that contains a code that’s required to proceed any further. This prevents hackers from getting into your profile unless they also have your phone too.
